Legendary Hong Kong

Had Hong Kong fare one fine Sunday with mom and sis!

Decided on Legendary Hong Kong Restaurant (港饮港食), a newly-opened, 230-seater restaurant in Jurong Point 2.

They promise to serve the most authentic Hong Kong fare, with an exceptional spread of dim sum, pastry, toasts, noodles, congee and roast meats. Diners will be spoilt for choice as they can choose to order from a menu that features more than 300 items!

I am impressed to see 4 shop fronts all purposefully laid out along the corridor of the mall,  to showcase the 4-sub themed concept of the dining outlet. Namely Roasted meats 九如烧腊, Noodles and congee 香港粥面, Dim sum 龙凤茶居, and Toast, instant noodles and drinks 白宫冰室.

Each entrance is lined with a glassed kitchen area or food counter, so you can see how your food/drinks are prepared in this traditionally decorated Hong Kong restaurant.

Apparently this restaurant aims to be a replica of a typical Cha Chan Teng in Hong Kong, with the narrowly spaced tables and bustling atmosphere. They even played Cantonese songs and have televisions showing TVB! Having been to Hong Kong just 2 weeks ago, I can safely say that this place truly feels like the real deal :)

Extensive menu!!

Service was rather slow though, unlike the efficient system in Hong Kong.

Of course, one cannot go to a Hong Kong cafe without trying their HK style milk tea.

HK Style Milk Tea ($2.20 Hot/5.60 Cold) and my HK Style Red Beans Ice ($4.20)! Love my beans

Mom and sis have very high standards for milk tea, and they both agreed that the ones served here are good :)

Beef Brisket Noodles $6.80

I thought the beef was quite fatty and tough, but I enjoyed the flavourful and light (albeit oily) broth :) Sis loved this!

Congee with Shredded Pork and Century Egg $6.80

My favourite type of Congee is definitely the HK type! Creamy and rich, this congee was made by boiling 3 different types of rice for hours till it becomes a silky, savoury concoction. I enjoyed this very much :)

Steamed Char Siew Pau $4

Disappointing.

Thick Rice Rolls with Dough Fritters $4.50

Rice Roll with Prawns and Chives $5.50

Roasted London Duck & Charsiew Rice ($8.80)

We were full of expectations for this after having tried some spectacular ones in Hong Kong. However the char siew here had a weird, unpleasant porky taste while the roasted duck was underwhelming.

Siew Mai $5

Definitely above average!

 Har Gow $5.50

Mine had around 3 prawns inside, pretty good :)

Visited this place again with the boy! :)

HK Style Tea & Coffee mix $2.80

This, as well as the HK milk tea I tried previously were very smooth and fragrant :)

Red & Green Beans Ice $4.50

Rice Roll with BBQ Pork $5

Was a bit apprehensive to try this because of the disappointing char siew rice and char siew pau I had, but this was pretty good!

Custard Crust Bun with Luncheon Meat & Egg $3

Love the crunchy topping! It was fluffy inside and a great accompaniment with the savory luncheon meat and egg :)

Sauteed Turnip Cake with XO Sauce & Egg $5.50

LOVE LOVE THISSSSS. Turnip cakes were slightly crispy because it was lightly pan-fried, then sauteed with flavoursome XO sauce and eggs :) I can have this all to myself ^^

Tossed Shrimp Dumpling Noodles $7.80

Just like any regular HK noodles, the noodles had an alkaline taste, much to my liking :) From what I heard, Hong Kongers love to dip the noodles in red vinegar to offset the alkaline taste.
